Last week I attended the launch of the lovely Cambridge Satchel Company’s Shoreditch Popup boutique. I love the company and its ethos and really enjoyed being a part of its new boutique in East London.
I think it’s going to do so well and that the people of Shoreditch will really enjoy their wide range of colourful bags! I also adored their matching Moleskine notebooks and journals, which make for amazing presents.
The best bit of the night was getting to meet Julie Deane, who is one of my business heroines. She was surrounded by family, which reminded me of exactly why she started all of this.
“It’s one of those business that was started out of necessity because I needed to make school fees for my daughter, who was being bullied at school,” said Deane. “I made a promise to her that I would move her to a place that she could be really safe and happy. Once you make a promise to your children, there’s no going back.”
And it’s that kind of passion and reasoning that really makes a business do well. One that is born from a reasoning beyond money for the sake of money. The Google advert obviously helped hugely, but Julie is one of the nicest people you will ever be and I think that’s why people buy into her company, because it echoes Julie’s personality entirely.
So if you’re looking for a great gift for Christmas, then head there!
