Page boy crops, monochromatic drama and origami inspired cuts…these are the looks you need to know about
Last weekend, I was taken away to Berlin to join 3000 hairdressers from 48 countries to learn all about key spring/summer 13 trends for hair.
This World Tour of the Colour Buzz Essential Looks Collection was a huge stage production, with models putting on a show, including music, dance, and then talks by global ambassadors Lesley Lawson and Tyler Johnston on cut and colour.
There were four trends in all:
Mono Mod: the show kicked off with the Retro Shapes look, very reminiscent of the sixties. Here we saw mod-like looks, with soft cuts, working from short crops, to mid-length Paige-boy hair, and a long monochrome style, with a very rounded fringe.
Glam Chic: chocolate browns, golden caramels and delicious mauves worked perfectly with glossy, blown-dry hair. This chic look really emphasised the most easily-translatable in-salon trend. Models graced the stage wearing men’s suits, as this look paired masculinity and femininity together in the most glamorous of ways.
White Angles: bright, bold and confident – this trend focuses on dazzling hues, which perfectly with summer’s white focus. Crimson reds, vivid blondes and purples complimented the geometric, origami shapes in the cut.
Electric Youth: cropped pinks, and burnt oranges. This was about the rebels, the rule breakers and celebrates brilliant colour. Perfect for bringing a younger crowd into the salon, this energetic trend focused on disconnected cuts and asymmetrical wonder.
Here are some of the images from the show itself, which really was fabulous!
Which is your favourite trend? I love the monochrome long hair cut, and may in time do a more subtle version of it…
