Westminster University fashion students from the BA (Hons) Fashion Design and BA (Hons) Fashion Buying Management courses have created collections for ASOS Marketplace in an exciting new move for the Industry.
I was very excited when I heard about this, as I think all new fashion talent should be celebrated, so to hear that ASOS will work with this sort of initiative is exciting for the future of our young design talent. The students have created ten High Summer 2012 collections for ASOS Marketplace, which buys and sells new, pre-owned and vintage fashion online.
The students were given a briefing in just December 2012 and could choose between womenswear, menswear or accessories. I am not sure I would have chosen? But then they would have been studying in the various specialisms at university. From this they had to get everything together that you would need as a young designer launching for the first time, including moodboards, concepts and of course the business plan! Then on top of this, the fashion buying students worked with them, taking on roles that would be necessary for a new business, and there was even a product development team!
I’d like to see more universities doing this and to be honest, I’m glad it wasn’t an obvious choice like the London College of Fashion or Central St Martins. It would be great to see other universities doing this with major retailers. It’s such a great platform and with the Marketplace, it can be shot and styled by the students too!
The ten new capsule branded collections for High Summer 2012 which will be available to buy on ASOS Marketplace from 1 June 2012. I can’t wait to see the collections, how about yourselves?
